Brief History
The Vayalar Memorial Youth Club (VMYC) is a Socio-economic and Cultural development centre registered under the Travancore- Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955 with registration No. 195/1976 dated. 22.6.1976 in memoriam of Vayalar Ramavarma who was an eminent social reformer and renowned Malayalam Poet. The Organisation is situated at Puthenpalam in Anad Panchayat of Nedumangad Block about 25 Kms. North of Tiruvananthapuram city. The movement came in to activation by the leadership of Mrs. D.Vijayam, Ms. Sajoona, Ms. Shylaja, Ms. Valasala, Mr.Muraleedharan K, along with the participation of a group of well-wishers and friends in and around the community.
For the last 34years the organisation has been actively involved in the development of backward rural mass by under taking various development programmes and Research Studies. With the help of many donor agencies from the country and abroad implemented several welfare programmes for the poor people.

Vision of VMYC is to build a society free from selfishness, fear, alcohol and drugs, dowry, corruption, exploitation, and a society based on people’s power, social justice, self- reliance, communal harmony ,and safe environment.

Mission of the organization is to fight for the integrated development of the rural population, which is oppressed and marginalized in the socio –economic and educational fields, with people’s participation
Aim of the NGO
To work for the Social, Economic, Cultural, Vocational, Physical and Artistic Progress of the Women and children.
To cultivate self dependency and unity among members and villagers.
To receive money from bank and other Government Institutions as Loan and grant and spend it for the Welfare of the Members and villagers.
To conduct Training Classes for the unemployed Youths in the villages so as to guide them to secure self employment and increase job opportunity.
To organize reading rooms, libraries and debating societies etc and publish periodicals for the cultural Development of the villagers.
To organize social Development activities for the improvement of poor and deserving members and villagers.
To organize and conduct centers for the disabled and aged members and villagers.
To conduct study Classes in Agriculture and job oriented courses on modern Sciencetific lines.
To give guidance in the collection and exhibition of Modern Arts, handicrafts, Natural and historical collections, mechanical and Philosophical inventions and work for the protection of Museums and archives included above but which seem fit this organisation shall also be included.
Scope
VMYC importing various enterpreneurship development progarmme for the unemployed youths. Various development training are imported ton the rural people to help them intiating viable productive ventures for income generation purpose.
Empowers women and girls through a process of education, skill training and income generation to utilize their full potential and enable them to take their own decisions and exercise their reproductive health rights and choices.
Encourage men and women to share responsibility in all areas of sexual and reproductive health on a basis of sensitivity to gender and equity, mutual respect and help for the enrichment of family and individual life.
Prepares young people through education and creating awareness to adopt healthy life style and relationships so as to lead happy and satisfying sexual lives free from, abuse and exploitation. Oppertunities are offered to adolescents and youth for capacity building, knowledge enrichment and for their active involvement in the planning and execution of youth friendly, sexual and reproductive health programmes, economic upliftment through organization of SHGs and micro-credit.
Voices people’s needs and concerns and brings them to the attention of Government and the public. It works in close partnership with the Government and serves on its various commitees and bodies where policies and programmes are prepared.
