Health
Women’s health status has undoubtedly made great strides in Kerala and there is no denying that it is an achievement par excellence considering the slow economic growth rate of Kerala. It has made substantial gains with respect to almost all the indicators.
One of the important contributory factors behind the far superior health status of women in Kerala is the high priority given by government in creating an effective public health system which takes care of the health needs of women particularly among the lower strata of the society. Besides, in Kerala, unlike in India more women than men avail of institutional facilities for treatment of disorders. The conventional indicators of health status of women in Kerala viz. sex-ratio, life expectancy at birth, fertility, infant mortality and literacy rate have been comparatively better when compared to other states if the country.
